What does your bottom look like?

You heard me right.

This is my signature (and self portrait) in some nice red clay.

(I dont know why the picture rotated...)

OOPS...

One of the things I'm working on is color combinations and simple glaze designs. I don't mind how this brick glaze ran down over the seafoam glaze. In fact I like it.
However, I don't like the little bare spots that decided to peek out. Maybe this would have looked okay with red clay.

Here's my set of nesting bowls (sorta) all together like one big semi-happy family.

Same set with some sunshine added...

My apprenticeship...

My first (bad) attempt at making an address tile. It's supposed to be smoooooooth...

I'm loinin'. :/

Chuck molds full of freshly poured clay just waiting to dry a bit before I flip 'em.

  3. Nice bottom!

I have had a similar crawling problem on some of my pots. I have traced it to a specific iron glaze that has a lot of titanium dioxide in it, although the same seems to happen with rutile. It is finicky and needs to go on really thin to not run.

Is your apprenticeship set up formally?

  4. Thanks everybody. I'm anxious to really get into the swing of things. My boss is sooo busy that it's taking a little time to show me the ropes. Once we go through the whole process, I'll start taking orders for address tiles. She actually has folks on a waiting list.

After all that, I'll also incorporate time to work on developing my own stuff. It really is a great learning opportunity.

I love seeing what you guys do. I feel like I'm a part of a pottery family.
